Chopped Salad

Today is D-Feast Friday!  What is D-Feast Friday you ask?  It’s a fabulous idea created mainly by Karen, Elizabeth and Lorraine via twitter.  (ah the wonderful world of Twitter!)  They have invited all to blog about favorite recipes, including pictures and any special techniques that may be used.

At first thought, I wasn’t going to participate since I didn’t feel like I had much to offer.  It’s not that I can’t cook … actually whatever I cook comes out pretty good!  But I don’t cook often due to either long hours at work or honestly a lack of a desire to cook.  (or it could be that we currently have a 10×5 kitchen with way less counter space than that!)  But then I thought, with some encouragement from Lorraine, that even if I don’t have my own recipe to share, I could share something that I really enjoy eating on a regular basis.   So my post is a little bit different.

I started working in Midtown Manhattan about 9 months ago.  Before that I worked in Jersey City, NJ where the selection of places for lunch were very slim.  One of the reasons I was thrilled to be working in the city again was the fact that there is an abundance of places to get lunch!  I also found a phenomenon that was new to me … chopped salad.  Every other place around my office has this on their menu and I love it.  Love!  But I have a place that has become my favorite and I get lunch from there quite frequently.  Chop’t.  All they serve at Chop’t is chopped salads … whether in a bowl or in a sandwich.  They offer a variety of “already made” choices or you can make your own with any of their fresh ingredients.  My favorites are the chicken caesar or the kebab cobb.  And both of them contain about 25g of carbs so they are easy on my bg.   Below are the ingredients in each of those salads.

Chicken Caesar: romaine lettuce with grilled chicken, shaved pecorino cheese and homemade croutons.  I usually have cajun chicken instead of plain grilled and add tomoatoes.

Kebab cobb: grilled chicken, feta cheese, red onions, peppers and pita chips with romaine lettuce.  I also usually have cajun chicken in this one too.

If you’ve never tried Chop’t and there is a location near you, I would highly recommend checking them out.  Their salads are delicious!

  • Yummmmmmm. You know how I love a good salad! :)

  • I am SOOOOOOOO glad you posted this! This was such a great tip for us when we went to NYC! This place is great! Fun and tasty. And don’t be intimidated by the line – it moves FAST!!!

  • Salads can be healthy. So long as you don’t put any salad dressing on it.

  • I love salad, and those two salads sound so good. I’m going to look at a NYC map right now and see how close Chop’t might be to BlogHer. :)

  • Thanks, thats very useful stuff to know! I admit I’m a bit hopeless in the kitchen, but I’m trying my best to learn. Admitting is the first step to recovery right!!? I promised to cook something for my wife this weekend for the first time – very exciting! I found some really simple recipes at this website, seems to be designed exactly with people like me in mind, which is great! Anyway, thanks for your tips, I’ll be sure to bookmark your site to read more later.
