Happy Tuesday!
Hope everyone is having a great day!
Thank you so much to ACT1′s Stacey who blogged all last week and participated in the DOC blog week with other fantastic bloggers! There was some cupcakes involved!
This past Sunday I participated in the AIDS Walk in NYC.
It was one of the most amazing things I have ever experienced.
As a diabetic and someone who has lived for 18years with an illness that is quite frankly a pain in the ass and can and has caused other issues, I feel I have to support other individuals living with similar lifestyles.
There were so many people who came out to support this cause.
People had pictures on t-shirts and banners of loved ones who fought for their lives.
There were major corporations and individual walkers and teams that knew no one who contracted the virus, but still wanted to raise support and awareness of this crisis.
Although it is heartbreaking to see illnesses such as AIDS, Cancer, Diabetes, MS and others, it is still a beautiful thing to see so many people gather together to fight a cause which affects millions of people everyday.
There is something inspirational about crowds filling up Central Park to walk and cheer each other on.
The pre-show was also amazing!
The walk was 10K. This is about 6miles! I totally thought I would have to stop more than I did to take a break. But I did it!
5minutes before the walk I tested my sugar and I was 386! OUCH!
Pump calculated 3.95units. So I took a risk…
I only gave myself 2 units.
Now I know that it isn’t a huge risk because exercise does help our blood sugars to some degree… but for those of you who know, my highs usually go no where! When I mean nowhere I mean NOWHERE.
I am talking 30units of bolus with no food, no where. I have combined exercise, tons of water, increased basal etc etc and nothing.
But nonetheless, I was 386. Took two units. An hour later I tested at 297…
And by the end of the walk *TRUMPETS PLEASE* I was 50 and in serious need to eat something ![]()
Thank you 6miles for helping achieve what I thought would be the impossible!
When it comes to exercise, even when I used to play sports for hours I would hardly go down this fast. And when I did, it was with no rhyme or reason.
My high’s and the response to treatment is never predictable or consistent.
What a fabulous day on Sunday!
Funds are still being raised! So go out and donate if you can!
$5.7million dollars has been raised!

Yay, Venus! Good job- I’m proud of you.
Well done both for the walk and the sugars! I donated some money to the cause.
I am so proud of you Venus! If I started the walk that I would probably go higher lol. Glad it worked out well for you. The AIDS Walk, like most walks is very emotional. I still need to donate to you, if you can send me a link I will get it sent in.
Great Job, Venus!!! You go girl.
