I admit, I am a huge technology gadget junkie. As soon as something new or updated comes out I want it. And more often than not, I get it. I have my personal blackberry that I don’t know what I’d do without – it lets me stay in touch with not only my twitter friends or diabetes blogs but also my other friends and family too. There are not enough hours in the day for me to get on my computer at home very often so with this, I can still keep up with everything. Or try to at least! Then there’s my work blackberry. I was given that so that I could manage my team even when out of the office. This means I’m “available” for work 24/7. Not my ideal situation but so be it. And my iPod. How could anyone live without an iPod these days? Whether it’s playing on my speaker systems at home, listening during my commute to and from work or helping me get through a workout at the gym, it’s my main outlet to music.

Let’s add diabetes to the mix. And I’ve got 3 more devices. There’s my insulin pump, my Dexcom CGM and my glucose meter. All three of these things I could not live without. Two of them pretty much literally. All of these devices are generally within 5 feet (or less) of me at any given time. When something rings or vibrates around me, I don’t know which one to check first!

Our purses/bags are definitely put through their paces…
Amen to that! I was reading your blog on my BB, while listening to my iPod, etc. etc. etc.!
I tried to make a phone call using my OmniPod PDM last month…(Me: “There’s no dial tone! Why’s there no dial tone??”)
Obviously a sign I needed to test…
ACT1′s Gadget Girl.
Haha yes, I call Stacey with every gadget issue that comes my way! I use my phone as an alarm clock so when I wake up with it next to me I sometimes confuse it with my pump lying next to me. Haven’t tried to make a phone call with it yet though… that one’s hard to top!
I totally understand!
Once or twice when my boss has been at my desk, he’ll lay his blackberry on my desk as we’re going over something & then when he’s leaving he’s grabbed my dexcom instead of his blackberry by mistake! lol
I’m beginning to think we need a woman’s version of the good ol’ Utility Belt. The stiff, heavy belt that will hold all our devices at waist level, so we know which one to grab when one rings, vibrates, or does anything else. (There’s an old Dilbert comic that has Dilbert losing a one-upsmanship contest with a co-worker for the latest, greatest gadgets on his belt… until the co-worker gets an incoming fax, unfolding over him like a loincloth.)
Or maybe I should just direct everyone over to ScotteVest.com and suggest some of the ‘hidden pocket’ clothing with “personal area network”. The openings to pass through headphone wires should work just as well for pump tubing, and there are pockets galore…
Stacey-
I thought I was the only gadget junkie! Girl, you have a lot of gadets.
That’s a lot of stuff. What on earth do men do?
Smart men like me (or in my case, not-as-dumb-as-Forrest men), use back packs. I have all my technology in my “man purse”. I carry everything in it. I even had backup pump supplies for Katie’s Medtronic…and my pump is an Animas! So, carry your Coach if you like, ladies. We men prefer our Columbia back packs!
