I was invited by the JDRF New York chapter to attend an awards and recognition ceremony for the ’09 Walk.  It was my pleasure to attend the event last night.  I was representing the ACT1 team, as team captain, and also was being recognized for my individual fund raising.  I went last year as well and it never ceases to amaze me that are certain individuals and teams that raise thousands and thousands of dollars for diabetes research.  I’m not sure how they do it, but it was nice to see them being acknowledged for their extraordinary contributions.  It was a pleasant evening filled with good finger good, socializing and applauding.

I have to admit that I did a pretty good job raising money last year but could never have done it without the support of my family and friends.  And for that I want to say a special, warm hearted thank you to all of those people who not only donated money generously to my walk efforts but to those who offer mental and emotional support to me all the time.  I don’t think I would be where I am today without them.  I want a cure as much as the next person with type 1 diabetes and realize that it can’t happen without expensive and extensive research, development and testing.  So thank you JDRF for all of your resources that are dedicated to finding that cure and thank you to all those who concentrate with their own time and money on getting to that goal as well.  I’m hoping that the ’10 Walk will be even more successful for myself and as a whole!

  • Stacey! How fantastic! Now if only everyone put in that much effort, we would (will!) have a cure soon enough. Way to go. :)

  • Good job, Stacey! Awesomeness. I used to participate every year as a kid (blog coming soon on my 1st one ever post-diagnosis at age 5), and in college I coordinated my fraternity’s annual efforts to raise $. That’s the most recent little Golden Sneaker plaque I have… Slacked in past decade or so, especially since moving to Indiana in 2004. Eager to get back on track this year! With the help of Facebook and so many other tools, it’s amazing how much people can raise these days. It all gets us closer to a cure.
