LGBT Support Group

ACT 1 Diabetes and The LGBT Community Center are hosting a new space for adults coping with diabetes
who also identify as LGBT.

SUGAR

We are the first (official) group for LGBT diabetics in NYC. Our mission is to offer support to both the newly diagnosed and seasoned diabetics (all types of diabetics welcome) who identify as part of the LGBT community.

An open group that meets the 4th Wednesday of every month from 6:30-8:00PM
Location: LGBT Community Center: 208 West 13th Street, New York, NY 10011
Please contact Tony at sugar@diabeticradio.com or Katie at katie@act1diabetes.org with any questions, comments, or to RSVP.

We offer a safe space (free of judgment) to talk about some of our challenges and successes concerning diabetes, as well as when those challenges intersect with other aspects of our identities.

  • Struggling with Same Gender-Loving relationships as a result of your diabetes?
  • Struggling with relationships with your healthcare providers?
  • Are you struggling with both diabetes and AIDS, drug and alcohol use, or depression?
  • Do you need a space to talk about sexual challenges as a result of diabetes (such as impotence)?

Please keep in mind that we should NOT be used a substitute for your existing diabetes team or medical doctor. Diabetes is a PERSONAL disease. Your diabetes is not the same as my diabetes, and vise versa (based on preexisting conditions, medications, body tolerance, physical ability, dietary habits, etc.).

Any opinions expressed by individual members are solely their own; and do not necessarily represent the views of Sugar. The information shared in our rap group are “food for thought” to be shared with your doctor; in order that we can create for ourselves the best possible quality of diabetic life.
